When is Plasauto SIGMA used?
Blood flow and withdrawal rates can be set with high precision to 1 ml/min, filtrate and substitution rates to 10 ml/h. Special blood tubing systems with a reduced filling volume of just 47ml are available for small children for all renal replacement therapy procedures. As a result, Plasauto SIGMA is even used to treat babies.
In lipid apheresis, the therapy of children with an increase in LDL cholesterol caused by homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is essential. A current publication documents the treatment of 24 children and adolescents in Germany with lipid filtration and the Plasauto SIGMA device technology over a longer period of therapy. This is the largest systematic analysis of the therapy of homozygous children in Germany (Taylan et al., 2020).
In addition, Plasauto SIGMA is used in autoimmune diseases to remove autoantibodies in children and pregnant women. Tryptophan mmunoadsorption was used successfully and clinically effectively in 24 pregnant patients with multiple sclerosis in an acute relapse. All children were healthy at birth. (Hoffmann et al., 2018).
